Jaarbeurs is an exhibition venue that hosts fairs, conferences, events, and other meetings. Every year, they organise a poster competition where HKU students are challenged to create a poster within a given theme. This edition was about a new campaign they started called ‘De wereld van Jaarbeurs’, where diversity is the main theme.

The entangled tubes represent the diversity of activities that are held at the Jaarbeurs and togheter form unity. They are also an abstract reference to the two intertwined snakes of the Caduceus, the staff carried by Mercury who is an icon for the Jaarbeurs.

Blender Infographic

An infographic about how you can use the Subsurface Scattering shader in Blender to create abstract colourfull materials.

“A mechanism of light transport in which light that penetrates the surface of a translucent object is scattered by interacting with the material and exits the surface at a different point. Although it is used to create realistic materials like skin, wax or milk, it can also be used to create soft, abstract and colourful materiais. To do this, choose a base colour and change the values of the radius sliders in the subsurface section to arbitrary numbers.”

The coloured squares indicate the base colours in collums and the values on each row indicate the radius values used on the specific colours

The way the book is bound and the fact that you have to unfold the book further enhances the message of diving deeper.
